With so much to look forward to, Barrett — who also shares 10-month-old sonAugustine Boonewith her fellowAmerican Idolalum — admits there’s one downside to a growing family, “the loss of sleep.”

“The biggest challenge of being a mom is loss of sleep. I think any parent will say that. And then when you add another child to the mix, you have to rebalance and reorganize and get everybody’s schedules down. So it’s just a matter of being prepared to lose that sleep at first, but you regain it back, so it’s good,” she says.

It doesn’t take away from “the biggest reward,” which Barrett says “is getting to see something that you created walk around and flourish into the person that they’re becoming. It’s very cool.”
