Rights issues probably stopped Blumhouse from calling its modish film “ Freaky Friday the 13th ” but that ’s almost on the dot what it is . Take the consistence switch vanity ofFreaky Friday , mingle it with the crazedkiller of Friday the 13th , give it the perfect release date , andyou have Freaky .
From film director Christopher Landon ( Happy Death Day ) , Freaky star Kathryn Newton ( Halt and Catch Fire , Supernatural ) as a high school pariah who switch bodies with a local serial killer , play by Vince Vaughn ( Swingers , Wedding Crashers ) . That means you ’ve come Vaughn fiddle a teen girl , Newton play a psychotic , and the first house trailer look like the moving-picture show plays that up crowing fourth dimension . Here it is .
We think that laggard looks great but the peril here is repeat . We ’ve seen so many horror movies and so many dead body switch comedy that while it ’s novel to flux the two like this , everything here feels so familiar . There ’s certainly a risk of the movie not being able-bodied to surprise us . But Landon has proved he can take a tried and true concept and raise it enough ( Happy Death Day , for example ) so our hopes are high .
