This morning gave us our first nifty look at the next soloSpider - Man motion picture : Far From Home . Peter ’s savage summertime vacation might not have given us anyAvengers : Endgamehints just yet , but there was still plenty to see about Spider - Man ’s next self-aggrandising adventure .
The dawdler opens back in Queens , as Peter ( Tom Holland ) , now flanked by his secret personal identity - sleep together Aunt May ( Marissa Tomei ) , opens a fundraiser supporting the homeless as Spider - Man . It would seem that at the very least , after the initial shock of discovering that her nephew is the Amazing Spider - Man at the last of Homecoming , May is now 100 percent on board with Peter using his superheroic condition for good .
Another thing she ’s also maybe on board with ? Flirting with Happy Hogan ( Jon Favreau ) , who seem to be gayly flustered in this New World chat with her . Please appreciate Peter ’s dumbfound / horror-stricken / embarrassed reaction to all of this .
Peter start frantically screen through the mess of his chamber as , in voice over , he tell Mr. Delmar ( Hemky Madera ) , who appear to now have a new store after his quondam one got blown up in Homecoming , that he ’s commence a big schooltime head trip to Europe total up .
As Pete checks his telephone set mid - webswing , note the background — it would appear that Avengers Tower is still undergoing serious renovation after Tony Stark sold it during the event of Homecoming . Who ’s the raw owner ? We do n’t know yet . Maybe Oscorp could do with a swanky new Manhattan reference …
Peter goes to plunk up his new passport , and if you were hop an eagle - eyed coup d’oeil at the validation years would give you an idea of when this pic is set well … you’re not catch it . The years are very observably absentminded ! ( We still have no idea if this photographic film occupy station after the effect of Avengers : Endgame or not . ) But at least you get to try and say “ Peter Parker here to pick up a recommendation , please ? ” five times fast .
While May grill Peter about his packing , she also implores him to put his suit in his luggage , too … but Peter has some baggage over that himself . “ Europe does n’t really need a friendly neighborhood Spider - Man , ” he tells his aunt . While a lot of the action for Peter and his Quaker on their trip in this trailer focuses on Venice and scenes in London , thenewly - resign posterfor the film adds to that New York ( duh ) , Prague , Berlin , and the Swiss Alps . Lotta meter for Pete to gaze awkwardly at MJ ( Zendaya ) .
And butterfly awkwardly with her , too , as the duo attack to compliment each other ’s appearance on an eventide out .
As the kids get settled into a decidedly melt - down looking hotel , Peter admits to Ned ( Jacob Batalon ) that he wants to spend more time with MJ on the trip … only for Ned to discover himself knocked - out by a nap dart in comical fashion . fire by none other than …
Nick Fury(Samuel L. Jackson ) himself ! “ So nice to finally foregather you , Spider - Man , ” the former music director of SHIELD adds as he sits in the most Bond - scoundrel fashion potential . Seems like Fury is going to wreak the mentor role Tony Stark had in Homecoming , and part of that involve him being a vacation political party pooper .
“ I think Nick Fury just hijack our summer vacation , ” Peter tells Ned — who , despite being rest darted , is very excited by that chance in a way that Peter is n’t . Beyond Venice , we see MJ and the other kidskin enjoy another stage of the trip with a rubber-necking busbar term of enlistment of London …
Which quickly becomes home to a big action sequence , as we abbreviate to Peter get around into action over a smokey , stormy Tower Bridge ( that ’s not to be confused with London Bridge , American reader , that ’s a wholly dissimilar nosepiece ! ) . Note here that Peter ’s not actually wearing his Homecoming suit , but a young version with dismal blue color and a raw whitened logotype on the back — maybe he adopt the ideafrom a video game ?
This newfangled suit was first spot inon - localization filmingin New York , featuring scenes of Tom Holland and Zendaya being swung around , before Tom Hollanddebuted the suiton Jimmy Kimmel Live . Whether that was filming for gibe intend to be London or if there ’s another action tantrum after this back in the Big Apple remains to be seen .
So what ’s the bighearted threat in this moving picture ? It first progress to an visual aspect in neither of these locations , but instead with Nick Fury and Maria Hill ( Cobie Smulders ) opening flame at a elephantine rock / George Sand elementary in a desert - y location . Do n’t get too excited about this potentially being Sandman or something ; as the trailer shew later on , there ’s more than one of these elementals demo up all over the place .
“ You ’ve got natural endowment , Parker , ” Fury says , as we cut over more shots of Peter swinging into action as an unnatural - looking storm begins forming over Tower Bridge ( not gon na makea Brexit joke , not gon na make a Brexit joke , not gon na make a Brexit joke … ) . “ But you have a job to do . Are you go to step up or not ? ” Between this and Peter longing for a simple vacation with friends , it feels like a lot of this motion picture is gon na be about Peter really accepting that he ca n’t just put away the great responsibility that do with his equally expectant exponent whenever he want . Once a Spider - Man , always a Spider - Man , even on the other side of the Atlantic Ocean .
As Happy tell Peter that he ’s on his own and his friend are in trouble — and we see MJ , Ned , and Betty Brandt ( Angourie Rice ) take flight from Tower Bridge , and a random dig of some mysterious goons open fire in a construction that seems exclusively unrelated — we get another shot of one of these Elemental creature forming . This time , it ’s made of fire / lava , as we go down checking the list of your bog - stock elemental being .
During this chronological sequence though , we get a blink - and - you’ll girl it look at yetanother unexampled Spidey - courting . pay court to the look of Spider - Man Noir , this surreptitious looking apparel comes complete with throw - up versions of Peter ’s common wanderer - goggles . Maybe it ’s something he throw together to stave off using his usual suit of clothes , but the body armor appear a little too slick for it to be something a stripling could cobblestone together on holiday , even one as voguish as Pete .
Back in Venice as a third elemental form — this time , made of piddle , because , well , when in Rome / Venice , I guess ! There werewildrumorsafter Tom Holland share some footage of this panorama being shoot that this is , in fact , Hydro - Man , an old school villain from the cartoon strip in 1981 ’s The Amazing Spider - Man # 212 , but the Hydro - Man of the comics is really a human , Morris Bench , who gets transform into man made out of water system after an experimentation gone wrong .
If this elemental is anything like the other two it appears more natural instead of being a someone transform , so even if this end up actually being the motion picture ’s take on Hydro - Man , it ’s go in a flake of a different focus . And if it is , it have for some interesting speculation as to which comics villains inspired the other two . Could that lava ogre be a nod toMolten Man ?
UPDATE : The eagle - eyed Tomb Svalborg on twitter note that in the shot of the kids sailing through Venice earlier , a passing boat in the background knowledge had “ Asm 212 ” write on it — presumably then a nod to Hydro - Man ’s launching issue ! in effect spot .

Just as things wait very wet ( and very regretful ) for Peter , another job emerges . Or perchance it ’s not a problem yet as we ’ll find out … who , or what is he ? One of Spider - Man ’s most fearsome foes , the marvelous Mysterio ( Jake Gyllenhaal ) !
First appearing in 1964 , Amazing Spider - Man # 13 , Mysterio — aka Quentin Beck — was a special effects maestro and stunt human being who turned to law-breaking after he found it hard to make a name for himself in Hollywood , using his SFX knowhow to turn himself into a master of trick .
Gyllenhaal ’s Mysterio , however , seems like less of a VFX original and more like … well , a straight up magic exploiter . We see him flying into battle in what is likely both the location Fury and Hill defend the earth elemental in , and then against the water elemental in Venice , casting green - hue bolts of energy and overstretch up justificatory runic letter that take care rather similar to the displays of magic pop the question by the Sorcerer Supreme himself , Doctor Strange .
So if this version of Quentin is a master of trick , he ’s pulling off some pretty wild poppycock . But is he champion or foe ? He seems to be helping out in the fight against the elementals , sure , but is it all a magic trick , or has one of Spider - Man ’s most iconic villain been sprain good ?
Peter ’s friends seem to think so , at least , as the house trailer end with the kids back in their hotel after the water elementary attack , ruminate the mystery story of Mysterio . “ He ’s like Iron Man and Thor roll into one ! ” one of them notes , only for Flash Thompson ( Tony Revolori ) to step in and guard the accolade of his beloved Spider - Man …
Even while he still mock Peter . Poor Parker .
Our first major look at Far From Home has given us some cool stuff — new villains , new suit for Peter , a spherical dangerous undertaking , and what is likely a meaning re - imagining of one of Spider - Man ’s most famed and beloved baddie . But if you were hop this snippet would grant you to start filling in the gaps between Avengers : Infinity War and Avengers : Endgame , or get an theme of what the Marvel Cinematic Universe will be like after Thanos ’ eventual defeat ( and how Peter Parker comes back from a dusty death ) , then … well , you were never gon na get any answers here , but we did n’t really get any clues as to just when this motion picture is even set , either .
