Though HBO’sDune : Prophecy — which just airedits second of sixepisodes last Nox — read blank space over 10,000 years before the birth of a certain Paul Atreides , the show and theDenis VilleneuveDunemovies are closelipped together in about every other expression than fourth dimension . Both are draw from the world make by Frank Herbert , of course , but the production design of the very popular Villeneuve movies clearly informedProphecy‘s look and feel , too .
In a new audience withthe Hollywood Reporter , which also digs into her time spent onLostandWestworld , Dune : Prophecyshowrunner Alison Schapker explained how the show carefully worked tie-in toVilleneuve‘s motion picture into its own deoxyribonucleic acid , including using the same baptistery for the rubric .
“ We were absolutely pep up by the films , and we wanted our world to find like it was in conversation , ” Schapker secernate THR . “ For model , when we go to Arrakis , the sandworms have a similar design , so Denis was kind enough to bless that lap . But we also want to go to our own corner of theDuneuniverse , and that ’s why we explicitly did not set the majority of our military action on Arrakis . We wanted to explore some satellite that people were not as conversant with , and do some world construction that would hold up in the greater universe . So , yes , we want to be in the universe of Denis ’ films , while also trying to do our own thing . ”

Doing their own affair was important for the show to create its own identity , but even if Schapker and her team had wanted more Villeneuve involvement , it was n’t really an alternative . “ By the time I come [ to work onDune : Prophecy ] , Denis had reengaged on the film side of things . That was where he was going to be put his creative zip , ” she say . “ So we did not create in lockstep , and being 10,000 days apart really lends itself to that . But he ’s aDunefan , and I ’ve had the pleasure of speak with him , so I go for that he will be please by this corner of the universe and clock time full point . ”
New episodes ofDune : Prophecyarrive Sundays on HBO and Max ; Villeneuve is said to be targetingDune Messiah , the third film in his trilogy , aspotentially his next vainglorious - cover project .
