Over a year agoApple filed a patent applicationfor adding a MagSafe - like connector to iOS machine . Unfortunately , their newly - granted patent of invention may sound like MagSafe ’s coming to iPads and iPhones — but this is n’t it .

You see , listed in the US Patent and Trademark Office ’s 20 okay patents yesterday for Apple , the magnetic connector ’s use apply to “ a portable machine such as a laptop computer , tablet computer , cell phone , spiritualist player , or the like . ” Nowhere in the patent is iOS equipment compatibility mentioned — though it ’s by all odds hint .

It ’s not even definite that this letters patent program is for the MagSafe , with the text file stating the patent approval “ may be a force connexion such as the MagSafe , ” and “ the pin layout may represent to the personal identification number layout of the MagSafe . ”
Instead , the engineering is repeatedly relate to as a “ magnetized coupling , ” with “ trapping ” being referred to as having magnetised qualities and “ cooperating ” with another caparison “ to imprint an natural enclosure of the electronic equipment . ” Nowhere does the patent program say this will be specifically for charge up devices , so we may be looking at MagSafe - corresponding qualities being added to ports , such as the Thunderbolt — though admittedly it does seem more sensible for this to be pertain to everyone ’s first thought , of iOS devices have MagSafe charge ports . I sure trust that ’s the event , anyway . [ US Patent and Trademark OfficeviaPatently AppleviaEngadget ]
