The day Chadwick Boseman found out Marvel Studios want him to play Black Panther , he may as well have woken up in another world . He was in Europe promote another movie , had n’t heard that Marvel was casting the office , and did n’t even have international calling on his cellular phone sound .
“ We were in Zurich , ” Boseman said at the Black Panther press group discussion . “ I was come off the red rug for Get On Up and my broker was like , ‘ You ’ve got ta get on the phone . ’ And the crazy matter is I did n’t even have international calling on my sound until that morning . In an audience I listen someone say ‘ Get external on your telephone set and call your mom , ’ [ then ] crucial clobber , literally , happened that night . ”
The important stuff was a phone call from Marvel Studios Chief Executive Kevin Feige , Marvel producer Louis D’Esposito , Nate Moore , and directors Joe and Anthony Russo .
“ We were sitting around a table . We were get along up with the story for [ Captain America ] Civil War [ when ] Nate Moore , our executive producer , suggested work in Black Panther because we were look for a third company that would n’t necessarily side with Cap or Iron Man . And almost instantly we all said ‘ Chadwick , ’ Feige said . “ And in my memory board , though maybe it was the next day , we got him on verbalizer telephone right then . ”
“ You hear citizenry say this all the time when you ’re in a circumstance like this but he was the only choice , ” Feige said . So , unlike some of the biggest star presently playing superheroes , Boseman did n’t have to do anything to get the role . No auditions , no nothing . He just had to be himself .
Plus , though they did n’t know it at the time , that decision was also a huge divisor in landing manager Ryan Coogler , who was at first unsure if Black Panther should be his next film .
“ When I make out and sat down to watch Civil War before it came out , I was trying to make my mind up if the film was right for me , ” Coogler say io9 . “ Then I insure [ the scenes with T’Challa and T’Chaka ] and was blown off . ”
“ I ’m really incredibly thankful for the choices and decision that [ everyone ] made in Civil War , ” he continued . “ I think they just did a phenomenal chore of introducing the primary character from this film , vagabond Chadwick , wander Dr. John Kani and Florence Kasumba . It just put us up in such an amazing way . ”
And it ’s a somewhat awful account too .
