The British astronaut Tim Peake distinctly likes a challenge . Not content with but heading into place on December 15th , he ’s also agreed to move a marathon aboard the International Space Station .
It will be the first time any astronaut has go the distance while in space . He ’ll guarantee the 26.2 miles at 10:00am GMT on April 24th , which is the same clock time as thousands of runners will ship on the London Marathon .
Unlike those competitors , though , he ’ll have to start the distance on a tread-wheel . To make the run ( slimly ) more naturalistic , he ’ll also watch an HD telecasting of the form as he runs . Heexplained to Principiawhat he ’s expect :
“ One of the biggest challenges I ’ll be facing is the harness system . In microgravity I would float if I did n’t strap myself down to the treadmill so I have to wear a harness organization that ’s a bit similar to a knapsack . It has a waistbelt and berm strap . That has to provide quite a bit of downforce to get my body onto the tread-wheel so after about 40 minutes , that gets very uncomfortable . I do n’t think I ’ll be set any personal topper . I ’ve mark myself a goal of anywhere between 3:30 to 4 hour . ”
Which is , honestly , faster than many of us could melt a endurance contest on Earth . He ’s running to promote awareness of The Prince ’s Trust .
Peake will head into space aboard a European Space Agency launching from Baikonur , Kazakhstan , schedule to take place on December 15th . That will mark another first , too , because it will make him the first ever British mankind to head into space .
