School Bus Crashes into N.J. Home, 2 Students Injured

Two students were injured when their school bus crashed into a New Jersey home Wednesday morning, and police said that a brake failure was the cause, per multiple news outlets.

“It is reported the driver tried to stop and could not stop at the intersection of Ziga on Rahway Road,” he said. “It was also reported to me that she did a great job of actually saving the children on board."

“She avoided hitting three other houses and ended up careening through the garage of another house…taking a couple of fences down before that," Bryan further noted.

The Edison police chief said that two students sustained minor injuries and that the driver was injured, adding that it was reported the brakes on the bus failed. He added that the New Jersey Department of Transportation and New Jersey Motor Vehicles Commission will inspect the vehicle.

“It’s amazing that no one else was seriously injured,” he said.

The homeowners of the house were not present when the incident occurred, per News12 New Jersey. Cleaning crews were inside the residence but were okay.

Aldarelli also said, per News 12 New Jersey, that a majority of the students from the bus continued on with their school day. “They’re obviously traumatized right now,” he said so we want to make sure that their well-being is first and foremost on our minds.”

Rachel Endress, an Edison resident, told WCBS: “I think it’s just something I’ve never seen before and hope not to witness again.”

The incident comes almost a month after acrash involving a bus that carried 40 New York studentsclaimed the lives of two adults who were traveling with them.
